The Jacksonville Port Authority's efforts to find a permanent CEO has produced a list of eight candidates for the port board of directors to review.

Those seeking to be the next leader of the port are:

• Jerry Bridges, former Virginia Port Authority CEO

• Bernard Groseclose, former South Carolina State Ports Authority president and CEO

• Juan Kuryla, Port of Miami deputy port director

• Ivy Barton Suter, former CEO of Trailer Bridge, Jacksonville

• Eric Green, senior director of governmental and external affairs for JaxPort

• State Rep. Lake Ray

• Roy Schleicher, interim CEO of JaxPort

"It was a very impressive group," said Jim Citrano, JaxPort board of directors chair.

The JaxPort board plans to finish initial interviews today. Members will discuss the candidates at a public meeting Monday in an effort to develop a short list.

The meeting will be the first time the board will discuss the CEO candidates in a publicly noticed setting.

The board members individually met with applicants during the interview process, which is allowed under Florida's public records and open meetings law.

If two or more members meet to discuss board business, the meeting must be publicly noticed and open to the public. If only one member of the board is present, the meeting does not have to be open to the public.

After the completion of the initial interviews, executive search firm Heidrick & Struggles will compile the scoring sheets from all board members and present the rankings to the board Monday.

The JaxPort board of directors hired Heidrick & Struggles on Jan. 28 to assist with the port's CEO search. The firm will be paid $99,000 plus direct expenses for the service.

"We will discuss the scores and attempt to come to a short list. It's not going to be easy with the group of applicants we have before us," said Citrano.

Minimum requirements for the position include knowledge and experience in the maritime seaport industry or closely related field and a minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible senior level management experience or a bachelor's degree and 10 years of progressively responsible senior level management experience.

The board appointed Schleicher interim JaxPort CEO on Dec. 19, shortly after former port CEO Paul Anderson resigned after accepting an offer to become the CEO of the Tampa Port Authority.
