Brenau University will open a Jacksonville campus in Southpoint at the Bank of America building at 6622 Southpoint Drive S., according to a building permit issued Monday.
It will be the first out-of-state campus for the private Gainesville, Ga.-based institution.
Williams & Rowe Co. Inc. pulled the permit Monday to renovate 4,380 square feet of space for Brenau University on the fourth floor of the four-story building. Build-out is $210,000.
Plans show two classrooms, a computer lab, IT, a faculty work area, a student break room, a conference room and 13 offices, along with the reception and entry lobby.
In January, Accessnorthga.com reported that Brenau University President Ed Schrader told the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce in Gainesville, Ga., that the university was looking at developing a campus in Jacksonville.
Brenau has five Georgia campuses, according to its website: North Atlanta in Norcross; South Atlanta in Fairburn; Augusta in Martinez; Gainesville; and Kings Bay. Morrison told the news site a Jacksonville location would complement the King’s Bay campus that is already established.
Brenau.com says the university was founded in 1878 as a private institution for the education of women. It became Brenau University in 1992.
It offers undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs for men and women online and at the regional campuses.
Enrollment for 2012-13 totaled 2,777, including 1,054 graduate students.
Its four colleges are Business & Mass Communication; Education; Fine Arts & Humanities: and Health Sciences.
