Workers arrived at the Landing before sunrise Tuesday to remove the beach that was installed in the courtyard for the Labor Day holiday. About 100 tons of sand were removed before the lunch crowd arrived.

It was a week of live music and traditional activities on the urban beach, which has been installed for the past three end-of-summer holidays. As part of the weeklong celebration, the Landing gave away three pairs of tickets to Jacksonville Jaguars home games. Two were the grand prize for the First Wednesday Art Walk sandcastle building contest and the other tickets were awarded to people who dug them out of the sand in the courtyard.

“Friday night, the tickets were found in five minutes, but Saturday night it took quite a while. Forty people dug for half an hour before they found them,” said Landing Public Relations & Marketing Coordinator Blakeley Ainsworth.
