• Calling all artists: The City’s Office of Special Events is having a contest to determine who will design the commemorative poster for the 2008 Jacksonville Jazz Festival. In addition to their work being featured on next year’s poster, the winning artist will also receive a cash prize, a complimentary booth at the “Art at the Met” juried art show during the festival and recognition as the official 2008 poster artist. • Quite a hike: Both elevators in the Florida Theatre Building were out of order Monday, forcing everyone who works there – including the Planning Department on the 7th floor – to take the stairs. Several people decided to just take the day off rather than make the climb.

• The Tourist Development Council meets Thursday at 10 a.m. in Conference Room A on the fourth floor of City Hall.

• Speaking of meetings, don’t forget the City Council budget hearings start Thursday with a special hour-long Council meeting at 8 a.m. in Council Chambers. All of the budget meetings are open to the public, but there isn’t a formal public hearing section.

• The Hutchinson-Suddath Building has been formally nominated for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. July 20, the Florida National Review Board met and made the recommendation. The next step is approval by the Keeper of the National Register.

• Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida executive Russ Jollivette is up for reappointment to the Jacksonville Aviation Authority’s board of directors. Also up for reappointment: Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis to the Parks, Recreation, Entertainment and Conservation Board as an at-large representative.

• Speaking of the Jaguars, former tackle Tony Boselli will be honored with a City Council resolution for his “caring and dedicated service to the Jacksonville community.” The bill will be read into the record at tonight’s Council meeting.

• The mayor’s office is sponsoring an ordinance that would appropriate $375,000 from the Florida Department of Transportation to reimburse the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office for overtime work associated with the recent Mathews Bridge construction project.

• The Fourth Annual Big Brothers Big Sisters “Margarita J’Ville” party is set for Sept. 28 at the new clubhouse at TPC Sawgrass. Sponsorships range from $1,000 up to $7,500. For more info, contact Judy Saylor at 727-9797 ext. 228.
