• The Municipal Code Compliance Division is relocating to the first floor of the Ed Ball Building, 214 N. Hogan St., effective Monday. The department will be closed Thursday and Friday and reopen Monday. Regular hours of operation are 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. • The Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida and the Healthy Jacksonville Childhood Obesity Prevention Coalition have partnered to host a public screening of HBO's documentary “The Weight of the Nation - Part 3, Children in Crisis.” The free event is from noon-1 p.m. Sunday at Sun-Ray Cinemas in Five Points.
• The Jacksonville Senior Services Division will host “Forever Fit 50 & Beyond: 2012 Jacksonville Senior Games” beginning Monday at various venues. The event promotes and encourages healthy and active lifestyles for men and women 50 years of age and over. The games are designed for seasoned athletes to take part on a competitive level and for novice athletes to participate for their own enjoyment. The event ends Oct. 6. • Carol Crews has joined The LBA Group as director of health care consulting services. The LBA Group provides financial and practice management consulting services. Crews will manage coding reviews, revenue enhancement and office optimization, financial impact analysis, regulatory issue consulting, strategic management consulting, educational and training services, and office operational assessments. The LBA Group is a local certified public accounting and consulting services firm in Northeast Florida.
• The Indo-US Chamber of Commerce and the Indian community Monday will host A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former president of India. The event will include the Navy honor guard, the Southeast Ceremonial Band and other musical performers. Local leaders and children can meet Kalam in a VIP reception. • The City will have an updated 630-CITY website Monday. The City’s online customer-service system will be down for maintenance and updates Saturday and Sunday. City officials recommend customers email [email protected] during the changes, which is the only way residents can file a concern during this time. Residents will not be able to submit information to the website or by phone while updates are being made. Regular services will resume Monday.
• The Web.com Small Business Forum will be 8-10:30 a.m. Oct. 19 at the TPC Sawgrass Golf Club. It was created to help local small business owners identify an online strategy that integrates Web presence, search engine optimization and social media to increase profitability. • The third annual “Going Places” fashion show and scholarship fundraiser will be 6-9 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Aetna Building, 841 Prudential Drive. Sponsored by the Northeast Florida chapter of Women in Transportation, the event will provide scholarships for women pursuing a career in transportation and logistics. The list of models includes state Rep. Lake Ray, president of the First Coast Manufacturers Association; Marcia Ferranto, WTS International president and CEO.; North Florida Transportation Planning Organization Chairman and Nassau County Commission Chairman Danny Leeper; and Clay County Commissioner Doug Conkey. • Brad Raney has joined Jacksonville BUZZ Magazine as chief executive officer. Raney is a 25-year veteran of the broadcast industry in sales and sales management, most recently serving as the local sales manager for WTEV-TV in Jacksonville. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in broadcast management.
• The University of North Florida will present Mina Baliamoune-Lutz, a professor in the Coggin College of Business Department of Economics and Geography, the 2012 Distinguished Professor Award during the 41st annual Fall Convocation ceremony 10 a.m. Friday in the Fine Arts Center Lazzara Performance Hall on campus. Baliamoune-Lutz is the 35th recipient of the award, which is given to a professor who demonstrates excellence in teaching, scholarship and service. The award is the highest honor to be presented to a university faculty member. Baliamoune-Lutz also is the first female in the Coggin College to receive this award. A Kip Distinguished Research Fellow of Economics, she has been at UNF since fall 2000, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in macroeconomics, international trade, the global economy, economic policy and a study-abroad course on the political economy of development in Brazil.
