Wawa Inc. intends to develop a location in Southside at southeast Emerson Street and Spring Park Road.
Pennsylvania-based Wawa intends to operate up to 40 locations in Northeast Florida and more than a dozen are opened, under construction or identified.
The city is reviewing plans for a 5,636-square-foot gas station and convenience store on 2.1 acres with eight fuel pumps and 16 fueling positions.
It will provide outdoor seating.
Property owners also seek to rezone the property.
The Ferber Co. Inc., which developed the Wawa along Wilson Boulevard, is listed on zoning documents as the project developer.
Lawyer Paul Harden is the applicant.
Ordinance 2018-562 is scheduled for Jacksonville Planning Commission review Sept. 20 followed by City Council introduction Sept. 25, council Land Use & Zoning Committee review Oct. 2 and a return to council Oct. 9.
Engineer England-Thims & Miller is the engineer and prepared the plans for Wawa Florida LLC in Orlando.
A mobility fee application filed with the city says the property contains an office building, two homes and a car wash.
Also, the city issued a permit for construction of a Wawa store at 2500 Monument Road in East Arlington.
Scherer Construction will build the 5,636-square-foot gas station and convenience store at a cost of $915,400. It also is building the canopy at $180,000.
Wawa is seeking sites in a crowded and developed market for gas stations and convenience stores.
It has developed in new projects, such as The Crossing at Town Center, and on vacant sites, such as at EastPark.
It also has been developing on land that had to be cleared of structures, such as at Commonwealth and Edgewood avenues, at Beach and Southside boulevards, at Monument and McCormick Roads and at Emerson and Spring Park.
