Earth Fare's first Jacksonville store at Atlantic North appears to be a $2 million project.

A permit application has been filed for the $985,000 interior build-out of the $1.04 million shell structure recently approved by the city.

Target Contractors Inc. is the contractor for the project, a 24,000-square-foot store for the North Carolina-based organic and natural foods grocer.

Plans show Earth Fare also will offer a 41-seat café area near the entrance. The café is near the coffee and yogurt bar.

The store is at 11901 Atlantic Blvd. in the center anchored by Academy Sports & Outdoors and LA Fitness. Belk also plans to build a department store there.

The center, developed by Sleiman Enterprises, is at northwest Kernan and Atlantic boulevards.

Earth Fare will include 13,510 square feet of sales area and 8,676 square feet for storage and preparation, along with mechanical and other space.

Earth Fare, based in Fletcher, N.C., near Asheville, calls itself "the healthy supermarket." It began in 1975 and now operates 31 stores in nine states, including a Florida store in Tallahassee. It started in 1975.

Bazille Café approved at Nordstrom

The city approved construction Friday for the Bazille Café in the area's first Nordstrom store under construction at 4835 Town Crossing Drive in the St. Johns Town Center.

IBEX Construction will build-out the 3,270-square-foot, 150-seat café and bar on the second floor of the two-story, 130,000-square-foot Nordstrom at a project cost of $787,000. IBEX is the contractor for the store.

Seattle-based Nordstrom expects to open the store in October. The Bazille menu at Nordstrom.com features soups, salads, starters, pizzas, sandwiches and specialties along with desserts.

Wine & Canvas plans Jacksonville studio

Wine & Canvas, which calls itself "The Painting Class with Cocktails," plans a studio location at 8206 Philips Highway, No. 5, at Baymeadows Road and Philips Highway.

Ash Properties is the contractor for the 2,218-square-foot studio at a cost of $12,560.

The wineandcanvas.com website says Wine & Canvas hosts events around the area and soon will add the studio.

The St. Louis-based company describes itself as "a mobile business that brings the party to your favorite venues, corporate events, or living room."

It says its artists will instruct customers "step-by-step through re-creating the featured painting of the day. At the end of the event, you'll take home a work of art that you created."

It says Wine & Canvas is cheaper than art school; there are no lengthy or expensive commitments; a customer can join "once, once a week, once a month, for special occasions or as long as it takes to create a collection that is uniquely yours."

It continues: "Life is too short for blank walls; unleash your inner Picasso."

Wine & Canvas events last 2.5-3 hours and are adult events, with no children under the age of 16 allowed. Events that take place in a bar require customers to be at least 21.

Prices are $35-$45, depending on the night and the painting. Fundraisers might cost more.

Wine & Canvas provides the artist, canvas, paint, brushes, easels and aprons. Refreshments and alcohol are not included — the menu and drinks are up to the venues and the customers.

The site says customers who host private events will be charged for a minimum of 15 people, although they can invite fewer. Wine & Canvas can accommodate up to 80 people at the studios for a private event.

The company also offers Cookies & Canvas for children and adults, with a minimum charge for 10 participants at a private event. It can accommodate up to 60 children at the studios.

Artists are invited to apply at [email protected].

Studios also offer "open studio" for artists with their own ideas for paintings.

The site show Wine & Canvas operates in 20 states.
