Ellis & Associates Inc. announced Thursday it has merged with Engineering Consulting Services and now operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Engineering Consulting Services Ltd.

Jacksonville-based Ellis & Associates has offices in Daytona and in Brunswick, Ga. It was established in 1970 and specializes in geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, environmental engineering, construction engineering and inspection and more.

Greg Edmonds bought the firm in 1988 and has served as its president and CEO.

Edmonds and Michael Lithman will serve as senior leaders of the firm, which as of Thursday is a member of the ECS Group of Companies.

Edmonds said in a statement the merger was an opportunity for Ellis & Associates to expand. ECS was the best cultural and professional fit, Edmonds said in a news release.

ECS was founded in 1988 and is headquartered in Chantilly, Va. The employee-owned engineering consulting firm has more than 1,300 employees and has grown to 50 locations and eight subsidiaries.

Bill Prescott of Heritage Capital Group advised Ellis & Associates in the transaction.
