Gov. Rick Scott announced Tuesday that he has appointed Assistant State Attorney Mose Floyd to the Duval County Court, succeeding Judge Kevin Blazs, who was appointed to the Fourth Judicial Circuit bench.

Scott’s office announced that Floyd, of Ponte Vedra Beach, has served as an assistant state attorney for the Fourth Circuit since 2010 and from 1999 to 2008. In 2009 he served as the managing attorney for the State Attorney’s Office for the Seventh Circuit.

Floyd also served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1977-99. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and received master’s degrees from the University of Southern California and the Marine Corps University.

He holds a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.

“As a veteran who served 22 years as a Marine officer, Mose demonstrates the character and dedication to be a well-qualified judge,” Scott said.

“His experience as a prosecutor, education and background will benefit the court and the community as a whole,” he said.
