Potter's House opens Southside Soul Food Bistro

The Potter's House Christian Fellowship opened Potter's House Soul Food Bistro at 11876 Atlantic Blvd., a former O'Charley's restaurant at Atlantic and Kernan boulevards.

According to thesoulfoodbistro.com website, The Soul Food Bistro was opened in 1998 by The Potter's House Christian Fellowship of Jacksonville. The original name was The Potter's House Cafe where the menu, size and scale of the facility were significantly different.

The original space was about 600 square feet and in 2007, the business expanded into The Potter's House Soul Food Bistro, operating a 5,800-square-foot space in the Kingdom Plaza, the former Normandy Mall. That address is 5310 Lenox Ave., Suite 1.

The former O'Charley's is a 7,200-square-foot restaurant built in 2004, property records show.

"The Soul Food Bistro boasts of taking a more sophisticated approach to the art of soul food, with its clean and polished atmosphere," says the website.

Its signature dishes include slow-braised oxtails, country fried chicken, candied yams, macaroni and cheese and "Slap Yo Mama" cornbread. Desserts include peach cobbler and sweet potato pie.
