Jacksonville University Professor of Finance Richard J. Cebula, the JU Davis College of Business Walker/Wells Fargo Endowed Chair in Finance, received the 2013 University of Georgia Graduate School Alumni of Distinction Award.

The award recognizes outstanding alumni who have made significant contributions to their fields and communities.

Of thousands of potential candidates, Cebula was selected along with 17 other recipients for the first class of honorees. They were recognized this month at a reception in Athens, Ga.

“Your accomplishments reflect the best that UGA’s graduate alumni have contributed to our society,” Cebula’s letter of congratulation from UGA Graduate School Dean Maureen Grasso states. “All of us at the Graduate School are proud of your many accomplishments. We welcome the opportunity to celebrate the role that graduate education has played in your success.”

Cebula was recently ranked among the most prolific economic writers in the world, ahead of the likes of Ben Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve.

In rankings produced by the highly followed Research Papers in Economics project (repec.org), Cebula came in No. 129 among thousands of scholars.

Among his duties at JU, Cebula will advise candidates in the College of Business’ new Doctorate in Business Administration program, one of only a handful of accredited such programs nationwide. Upon accreditation, the program will begin in fall 2014.
