Executive Director, Seamark Ranch

Mission
Seamark Ranch is a nurturing Christian home that gives children from families in crisis the tools they need for a brighter future. Through a family home model, a specialized residential school and the lessons of life in a working farm community, Seamark Ranch provides the ideal setting for love, stabilization, healing, education and empowerment.

Serving Jacksonville
Jacksonville-based. We began accepting children in August 2007. The ranch is in Green Cove Springs.

Those served
Children in Northeast Florida, however we’ve accepted children from as far away as New York. Since opening our doors, we have served more than 50 children.

Biggest challenge
Our greatest challenge is growing the organization. Seamark Ranch is an outstanding residential and educational environment with so much to offer for children who have experienced the loss and trauma of difficult family situations. We would like to build more homes and expand the school.

Biggest satisfaction
I get the most satisfaction in seeing the transformation of lives — children who have had almost no hope and very little opportunity come to the ranch and they find great hope and an abundance of opportunity. Their heads are lifted up and their very countenance changes.

Hometown
I wasn’t born here, but Jacksonville is home. I graduated from Englewood High School and the University of North Florida. I lived in Savannah, Ga., for 11 years and near Rochester, N.Y., for 12 years.  I was able to return home to Jacksonville in 2005.

First experience with community service
One summer I was able to get a unique experience in community service when I attended the New York School of Urban Ministry for a five-week course. We worked throughout the city in churches, schools and in the streets providing help and support for various groups and individuals. That experience helped me to see the world from a new perspective and it motivated me to pursue a new career track in life.

Your job before Seamark Ranch
Previously I have had careers in medical sales with PSS World Medical and in education as a teacher and principal of a private school in upstate New York.

Upcoming events
While we have several smaller events and volunteer opportunities throughout the summer, we’re especially excited about celebrating our 5th anniversary with the community on Nov. 3. It will be a full day of food, music, games, tours and family fun. People from all over Jacksonville are invited to visit the ranch to help us celebrate. Visit our website or call our office for information.
