Executive Director, Ability Housing of Northeast Florida Inc.

Mission
The mission of Ability Housing is to provide quality, affordable community-inclusive housing for individuals and families at risk of homelessness and adults with a disability. To fulfill this mission, we develop and operate quality rental housing that is affordable to persons with extremely limited incomes. We are the only nonprofit in Jacksonville with this focus.

Serving Jacksonville
Ability Housing started in 1992 and became focused solely on affordable housing in 2004.

Those served
Ability Housing serves Duval County. Currently we serve 143 households and are growing.

Biggest challenge
The biggest challenge of my position is time. We are a very lean operation with a small staff. It is often difficult for me to find the time to do everything that I would like to fulfill our mission and improve our community.

Biggest satisfaction
By far my greatest satisfaction is the joy of residents when they move into a home of their own, knowing we are providing them with a quality place to live which they can afford and knowing how hard everyone worked to make it possible.

Hometown
I grew up in the Boston area.

First experience with community service
I first became involved by volunteering and then serving on the board of HabiJax.

Your job before Ability Housing
I was the associate director of Habitat for Humanity of the Jacksonville Beaches.

Upcoming events
Ability Housing does not have any events currently scheduled, however we are always looking for volunteers to help with special projects on our rental houses.
