While it's still a year before the full-line Nordstrom is expected to open at St. Johns Town Center, the off-price Nordstrom Rack is scheduled to open at 9 a.m. Nov. 7 at The Markets at Town Center.
Nordstrom Rack will open at 4924 Big Island Drive, not far from the site of the area's first full-line Nordstrom under development. The City is reviewing construction plans for the Nordstrom wing, whose shell project costs total $9 million.
The Rack will be the first of the Nordstrom brands to open. The City approved the posting of a banner sign for it to proclaim "Store Opening."
Permanent store hours haven't been posted, but events start at 8 a.m. the opening day for the "Rally at the Rack" with music and breakfast treats, according to Nordstrom.com.
That morning, one person will win a $1,000 gift card and 8:30 a.m. access to the store. Another 30 winners will receive $100 gift cards. The first 1,000 shoppers will receive free, reusable totes while supplies last.
Meanwhile, basic construction costs for the shell buildings for St. Johns Town Center's third phase, the Nordstrom wing, add up to $9 million.
The City is reviewing plans for four projects:
• Nordstrom, 4835 Town Crossing Drive, 127,000 square feet, two stories, the contractor is IBEX Construction Florida LLC of Coral Gables, $6 million.
• Building N, to be anchored by the Arhaus furniture store, 4828 River City Drive, 19,400 square feet, two stories, the contractor is VCC LLC of Irving, Texas, $1.52 million.
• Building M, 4818 River City Drive, 16,600 square feet, one story, the contractor is VCC LLC, $1.5 million.
• Open-area canopy over the common area, the contractor is VCC LLC, $76,303.
Tenant build-out is permitted separately, meaning total costs will be higher than the basic building permits.
Mayo Clinic improving admin offices
Mayo Clinic Florida is redesigning its administrative offices at its 4500 San Pablo Road campus.
Auld & White Constructors LLC will renovate the space, at 5,847 square feet, at a project cost of $1.49 million.
Mayo External Communications Manager Kevin Punsky said the new administrative-suite open-office design, which is in the Davis Building, is a "rebuild" of the existing space.
"We are modifying our office environment to be a more open, collaborative space. This will aid in the speed of the decision process due to the increased collaboration," he said, adding that other professional firms have done the same.
Ronald McDonald House to expand
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Jacksonville wants to add 24 guest rooms to its 30-room Southbank building, which serves families of sick children being treated in Jacksonville.
The building, at 824 Children's Way, is near Nemours Children's Clinic and Wolfson Children's Hospital.
The City and the St. Johns River Water Management District are reviewing the plans for the addition on a 2.46-acre site. England, Thims & Miller Inc. is the project engineer.
More than 300 Ronald McDonald Houses operate nationwide.
The first 10-bedroom Ronald McDonald House in Jacksonville opened in 1988 near what is
now the UF Health Jacksonville medical center in Springfield. As pediatric health care services were developed on the Southbank, the new house opened
with 20 bedrooms in 2001 and another 10 rooms were added in 2004.
Its website, rmhjax.com, reports that the house has offered support and temporary lodging to more than 32,500 families while their sick or injured children have received medical care in Jacksonville.
Wells Fargo files layoff notice for 95 workers
Wells Fargo, which said Wednesday it would lay off 95 Jacksonville employees as part of a 2,300-job cut in its mortgage lending division, filed notice with the state Thursday.
Wells Fargo filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification that it would lay off those employees as of Oct. 20 at its location at 10401 Deerwood Park Blvd. The building is in Capital Plaza in Deerwood Park South along Southside Boulevard, south of Butler Boulevard.
Kathy Harrison, a spokeswoman in Jacksonville for the San Francisco-based banking giant, said the jobs involved mortgage processing. She said the local mortgage processing operation is not shutting down, but she did not know the total number of employees in that division in Jacksonville.
