Southside is in store for another grocery store now that the city approved the permit for the Patel Brothers “Celebrating Our Food … Our Culture” grocery chain to build-out at 9551 Baymeadows Road.
Director Rakesh Patel, a member of the family that owns the Chicago-based business, told the Daily Record in February that once the permit is approved, construction would take three months to complete. The permit was approved Thursday.
UNI Construction is the contractor for the $354,800 construction project to renovate 11,000 square feet of space at the shopping center.
Patel estimates the store will be a $1 million investment, including construction, equipment and inventory. Plans show produce areas, display cases, rows of shelving, a stock room, a cooler and freezer, checkout stations and a cooking demo counter to offer daily samples.
It is the fourth Patel Brothers store in the state. The company, which started 40 years ago, has more than 50 stores in 18 states and Canada, according to the patelbros.com site.
Patel said the Jacksonville store would operate 11 a.m.-8 p.m. daily and the hours would adjust according to customer needs.
He also said the shopping center will be renovated for Patel Brothers, which will lease several units that will be combined, and that the grocery stores typically attract more businesses.
The city also recently approved a permit for Urban Partners Construction LLC to renovate the exterior of the shopping center, Baymeadows Place, a construction cost of $525,719.

• Brew Five Points LLC is building out a craft beer and espresso bar at 1024 Park St. in Five Points. Cantwell Construction is the contractor for the $20,000 project to add a new wall bar, light fixtures, cabinets and coffee equipment in 1,094 square feet of space. Its Facebook page indicates it will open this month. Partners are Samson Investments Holdings LLC, Three Fish Holdings and Jack R. Twachtman, who owns the Burro Bar and is vice president of Burro Bags Downtown.
• Moe’s Southwest Grill is preparing for a restaurant in the River City Marketplace area at 15128 Max Leggett Parkway, No. 1. Dakenna Development Inc. is the contractor for the $282,737 project.
• Innuendos Inc. is listed on a permit application as a restaurant tenant at 3325 Plymouth St.
• Roofing was OK’d for Zaxby’s at 9710 Applecross Road.
