Rev. Sharpton a surprise winner

The results from Tuesday’s Democratic Straw Poll are in and the Rev. Al Sharpton is the leader, having won 30 states. Former Vermont governor Howard Dean finished second with five states, followed by U.S. Rep. Dennis Kuchinch of Ohio, who, out of 4,481 ballots cast, tallied just 111 votes. Twenty-nine Duval County public and private schools and colleges participated in the elections, leading to the 2004 Mock Convention in February. Votes were scanned Thursday morning at the Supervisor of Election’s Office on Monroe Street.
