Susie Wiles has agreed to be the interim director of the Jacksonville Civic Council, replacing Don Shea, who resigned in December to become the director of economic development for St. Tammany Parrish in Louisiana.

"Susie is the perfect choice and I am grateful she has agreed to join us," said Steve Halverson, council chairman, in a news release. "She helped us establish the Jacksonville Civic Council in the very beginning and performed superbly."

Halverson said in the release that Wiles' knowledge and experience will assist the council in the next few months as it identifies its next executive director.

Shea has been the only director of the organization, serving since Sept. 13, 2010. The organization comprises Jacksonville business and civic leaders who formed the group to address Duval County issues.

Wiles is the managing partner for the Jacksonville office of Ballard Partners, which specializes in governmental and public affairs, according to the firm's website.

Wiles' experience includes serving as chief of staff for former Mayor John Delaney, communications chief for Mayor John Peyton and campaign manager for Gov. Rick Scott.
