From the Daily Record

Southeastern Grocers launched a pilot Winn-Dixie supermarket in Baymeadows, reopening a to-the-walls renovated store at the Point Meadows shopping center.

“If it works well, we’ll roll it to other stores in the Southeast,” said CEO Ian McLeod.

The new store design emphasizes freshness, quality, value and the sense of something cooking in the kitchen.

The main entrance opens to the large produce section, with floral, sushi, kitchen, a coffee shop, bakery, seafood, butcher, cheese and deli departments to the right and an unobstructed view of all eight checkout lanes to the left.

Departments are identified on the top of walls to make store navigation easy for busy shoppers.

Southeastern Grocers expects to remodel 50 stores this year across its Winn-Dixie, Bi-Lo and Harveys supermarket chains.

The Baymeadows Winn-Dixie closed in 2010 in a cost-cutting move. But McLeod said it had been built as a standard store and was not targeted to the needs of the neighborhood.

Red Robin, Texas de Brazil joining Promenade lineup

Eight tenants, including the area’s first Red Robin Gourmet Burgers & Brew, Texas de Brazil Churrascaria Brazilian Steakhouse and Piada Italian Street Food restaurants, will open in the Town Center Promenade development by spring 2017.

Tenants also include an Aldi grocery store, Aspen Dental, Mattress Firm, Starbucks and Newk’s Eatery.

Core Property Capital of Atlanta bought 62.85 acres in January along Town Center Parkway across from St. Johns Town Center. About 30 acres can be developed and are designed for retail, hotel and multifamily projects.

Hakimian branches into office market with Liberty Center buy

Jacksonville-based Hakimian Holdings expanded into the commercial office market with the $11.4 million purchase of Liberty Center along Butler Boulevard.

“A lot of retail is happening over there and we want to be in the middle of it,” President Ben Hakimian said.

Hakimian intends to invest more than $1 million into interior and exterior renovations. He also plans to develop two outparcels on the property and is negotiating with a national publicly traded upscale restaurant.

The purchase is the start of more office acquisitions, he said.

Company spending 40M 2 nursing and rehab centers

Health Care Managers Inc. plans to break ground this year on skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers in North Jacksonville and in Clay County.

The projects represent at least a $40 million investment.

The company bought property at Max Leggett Parkway and Owens Road to develop River City Rehabilitation Center.

The site is near River City Marketplace and the new UF Health North medical office complex, which opened a year ago.

Construction could start by year-end and be completed by late 2017.

In Clay County, Health Care Managers will build at Branan Field and Old Jennings roads, near the expanding St. Vincent’s Medical Center Clay County. Construction should start May 1.

The company also plans to build a memory-care assisted-living facility near Branan Field that would be completed in two years.

Sight & Sound building new HQ

Sight & Sound Productions and its Mugwump Productions subsidiary will break ground this month on an almost 34,000-square-foot office-warehouse and headquarters.

It will be located near the space the company already leases along St. Johns Industrial Parkway North. The $3.7 million project will take nine months.

Owner and CEO Jon Davis said there is no better location to serve the entire city of Jacksonville.

Sight & Sound produces corporate meetings, concerts, festivals, conferences, award galas and other live events. It also partners with hotels, private clubs and properties to provide in-house audiovisual services.

Air-Van doubling size in North Jacksonville move

Jacksonville-based Air-Van Inc. will relocate in North Jacksonville and almost double in size.

The transportation company expects to move in May from 60,000 square feet of leased space in the Jacksonville International Tradeport to 110,000 square feet in the Alta Lakes Commerce Center.

Air-Van Vice President Steve Wright said the company is expanding and also would like to be closer to Jacksonville’s port.

The move will provide more space for cross-docking and transloading of ocean cargo as well as additional capacity for more equipment, warehousing and larger projects.
