Children who live in Eureka Garden got a boost last week with supplies for the new school year.

Mona Lisa Arnold, who lives in the Westside complex, organized a back-to-school drive with help from attorney John Phillips.

His law office donated 50 stuffed backpacks and when others heard about it, they helped double that number.

The day also included treats from an ice cream truck.

The event was across the street from the apartment complex, Phillips said, because a Eureka Garden manager wouldn’t let it be held on-site.
