Four attorneys have become shareholders with the Saalfield Shad law firm.

They are:

• Susan Bird, who focuses on medical malpractice, nursing home defense and administrative law. She defends physicians, nurses, hospitals, nursing homes and other health care professionals in civil cases and before regulatory and licensure boards, according to a news release. Bird also is a licensed registered nurse in Florida and worked for many years in that profession before practicing law.

• Travase Erickson, whose primary practice areas include the defense of medical malpractice claims, insurance defense, general liability defense, administrative law and appellate law. The release said Erickson is a frequent presenter to medical staff, nurses and physicians regarding best practices by health care providers to enhance patient care and safety by being aware of issues in medical malpractice litigation.

• Duke Regan, who represents individual and corporate defendants in medical negligence, correctional health care, personal injury and general liability claims. The release said he has served as lead counsel in circuit civil, appellate and administrative courts.

• Jenifer Worley, who has almost 20 years’ experience representing individuals and corporations in medical negligence, premises liability, personal injury and general liability claims, according to the release. She is licensed to practice in Florida, Georgia and Alabama.

Fellowship will help area veterans

The duties include representing veterans in issues such as landlord-tenant matters, disability and other benefits, child support and expungement.

The attorney selected also would work with agencies, including the Veterans Administration hospitals and clinics, and deliver “Ask a Lawyer” presentations at veterans centers.

The fellowship, sponsored by Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps, pays up to $44,450.

Health insurance is provided, as are life and disability insurance. Low-cost vision and dental plans are available.

Candidates should email a resume and letter of interest by Sept. 1 to [email protected] and [email protected] with the subject line: AmeriCorps Fellowship and the applicant’s name.

The position, pending final notification of funding, is scheduled to begin no later than Sept. 30.
