By Justin Brown, Builders Care executive director

As our fiscal year comes to a close, it is time for reflection about how Builders Care is serving Northeast Florida.

Builders Care has been busy fulfilling its mission, which is to provide no-cost construction or affordable solutions for low-income homeowners, typically disabled and/or elderly, and other nonprofits that help strengthen our community.

Over the past three months, we repaired 12 roofs, built four wheelchair ramps, pressure washed and painted five homes with more than 100 volunteers, helped two families with critical plumbing issues, rehabbed six homes in the New Town area for HabiJax and worked with four other nonprofits to help further their missions.

On the fundraising front, our board created a Caring Member campaign, the goal being to cover overhead for Builders Care on an annual basis.

Those choosing to help sponsor Builders Care are mentioned in the weekly NEFBA newsletter, announced at the NEFBA board meetings and receive recognition and backlinks on our website.

Most importantly, they’re helping further Builders Care’s mission to aid many of Jacksonville’s most vulnerable citizens.

The campaign was launched a couple months ago and is gaining momentum.

Eagle View Windows and Doors made a splash at last month’s NEFBA board meeting when they pledged an annual commitment of $25,000.

Thank you so much to Eagle View and to all our Caring Members.

Thank you to all of you for your support. As mentioned above, all of the caring members appear on our website, which was donated by another generous NEFBA member, Krain Design and Marketing.

Please visit at our new website, still at builderscare.org, and while you’re at it, please like our Facebook page, which is listed under Builders Care.

One of the highlights of our new website is the sponsor-a-project page. Here you will find projects on our waiting list.

If a donor wishes to make sure 100 percent of his or her donation actually funds those in need, this provides just that opportunity.

We are hoping this crowdfunding will enable us to tackle our enormous waiting list of qualified citizens in need of critical home repair.

We are able to help so many people within our community because of the donations we receive from our incredibly generous NEFBA membership.

In-kind donations, as well as volunteers donating their time, helps Builders Care stretch the money in our stewardship and ultimately affect more families in need.

As we close out our fiscal year and look forward to another year with an even larger response, we thank each and every one of you for helping make a difference.

We are grateful for your support and look forward to reaching even more people in our community who need safe, healthy homes in the years ahead. Won’t you join us?
