Each year one association wins the NAHB Membership Cup for achieving the most outstanding membership efforts of the year.

The winning association will have set and met challenging membership recruitment and retention goals, will be judged by the NAHB Membership Committee to have the most effective membership plan and will show unparalleled percentage increase in both growth and retention during the previous year.

NEFBA is that association for 2015.

The top HBA (homebuilders association) from each of seven groups based on size is determined based on the highest combined percentage increase in recruitment and retention at the close of the previous year.

The HBAs submit annual membership plans for evaluation by the NAHB Membership Committee.

“NEFBA is in the largest local group category, with more than 1,000 members,” said Executive Officer Corey Deal. “Our members and our staff have consistently worked extremely hard to recruit and retain members.

“We’ve seen the numbers increase steadily and now our efforts have been rewarded by recognition from NAHB,” he said. “This is a proud occasion for our association.”

Hans Krieg, NEFBA’s director of member services, said setting goals was the first step in the association’s success.

“We set our goals high enough to be a challenge but not unrealistically high,” Krieg said. “I have been and continue to be impressed at the persistence and determination of our members when they are focused and keep their eyes on the goal.

“Our membership committee and its chair, Chet Skinner, were diligent and motivating,” Krieg continued. “All the members who worked on getting new members and keeping existing ones deserve this cup for the amount of time and energy they spent to strengthen our membership.”

The Membership Cup Award includes an engraved plaque honoring the achievement, presented at the Association Leadership Institute conference; the name of the winning HBA engraved on the official Membership Cup displayed at the National Housing Center in Washington, D.C.; and the winning recruitment and retention initiatives will be incorporated into best practices materials to inspire other local associations.
