WestRock Co. filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice saying it intends to cut 127 jobs at a folding plant at 136 Eastport Road.
WestRock spokesman Chris Augustine said by email that “high fixed operating costs made it increasingly difficult to make products cost competitively at our Jacksonville Folding plant.”
The paper and packaging company will still have about 1,000 employees in the Jacksonville metropolitan area at several locations after the closing.
The Norcross, Ga.-based company was formed last year by the merger of Rock-Tenn Co. and Meadwestvaco Corp. It has about 39,000 employees at more than 250 locations around the world.
The 127 affected employees in Jacksonville will be eligible for separation pay and insurance benefits. The layoffs are expected to take place in September, according to the WARN notice.
