Earlier this year, the public knew a little about “Project Arnica.”

It was a global medical technology and medical devices company.

It wanted to create a Jacksonville location for a 3-D manufacturing printing plant and create 25 jobs.

It wanted $420,000 in city and state incentives to make it work.

Now, five months after City Council approved the deal, Project Arnica has been announced as German-based The KLS Martin Group, which employs more than 150 people in Florida.

The company reveal was announced in an email from Gov. Rick Scott’s office.

KLS Martin will establish its first U.S. manufacturing operations and create those 25 new jobs in Jacksonville at an average wage of more than $70,000.

The email did not say where the company would be located.

The focus of the company in Jacksonville, according to Scott’s office, will be on precision 3-D printing and milling of products for reconstructive surgery.

The office will serve as the North American arm of the company’s global network. It employs more than 1,000 worldwide.

The company has had a sales company, KLS Martin, in Jacksonville since 1993.

JAX Chamber CEO Daniel Davis in an email Wednesday said the company represents the type of advanced manufacturing projects the chamber is working to attract.

On the incentives side, the city is responsible for $125,000, provided through a Recapture Enhanced Value grant for tangible improvements the company makes to its property.

The grant is a rebate on taxes that will be paid over a six-year period.

The KLS Martin Group is slated to invest at least $5.3 million in information technology equipment, furniture and real estate improvements as part of its deal with the city and state.
