NEFBA’s Government Affairs Committee: The next Government Affairs meeting is 8:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 1, at the NEFBA office, 103 Century 21 Drive, Suite 100.

Riverside/Avondale Zoning Overlay Bill: Councilman Jim Love proposed legislation (2016-580) that would affect the overlay in Riverside-Avondale. The changes involve closing times for restaurants, the size of all future restaurants, parking requirements and other issues related to restaurant operations. Consideration would also be given to the impact proposed new restaurants would have on the immediate area.

Clay

Green Cove Springs wastewater rate increase: The Green Cove Springs City Council is considering a proposal to borrow more than $34 million from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to upgrade the city’s wastewater collection, treatment and facilities. If approved, residents could see an 11 percent increase in their wastewater bill next year.

Orange Park budget deficit: The Orange Park Town Council voted 3-2 to approve a $16,946,509 budget for the 2016-17 year. Last-minute additions to the budget resulted in an $87,263 deficit, which will be funded by county reserves.

St. Johns

New county engineer: St. Johns County has a new county engineer. Jay Brawley has been hired to replace Press Tompkins, who left to become the public works director in Putnam County. Brawley previously worked for the St. Johns River Water Management District and Kimley-Horn and Associates.

Nassau

County manager retiring, replacement named: Nassau County Manager Ted Selby has announced his retirement effective in January. After discussing the cost of hiring a recruiting firm at a recent workshop, the Board of County Commissioners voted to save the funds and offer the job to Assistant County Manager Shanea Jones. She has been with the county since 2004.
