Jeff Ferguson is a Texas native who graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in civil engineering and began his career as a consultant in Austin.
He started his own custom homebuilding company in 1999. In 2006, he moved to Jacksonville to take a job in land development with a private regional builder and was promoted to run the division in 2009. Recently, Ferguson moved to CalAtlantic as the division president.
He has been a NEFBA member since he moved to Jacksonville in 2006. He has served on NEFBA’s board of directors, other issue-oriented committees and the St. Johns Builders Council board.
The Clay Builders Council hosts a monthly meeting for members and invited guests. Guest speakers often include local officials and decision-makers involved with construction in and around Clay County.
The council also is a longtime supporter of Clay County charities, particularly the annual Clay Food Drive providing holiday meals for residents who might not otherwise have one.
Because Ferguson has been involved in NEFBA’s Government Affairs Committee and other committees focusing on regulatory and industry issues, he carries those concerns and emphasis to the Clay Builders Council.
He sees a major goal of the council as one of political advocacy and having a voice in regulatory issues.
Initially after joining in 2006, he attended Governmental Affairs meetings and served on other committees that involved regulatory and industry issues.
“I always try to make sure I attend the annual gala, as well as many of the social events, golf tournaments and fundraisers,” he said. “Our strength comes from our interaction with builders and associate members across the area, within and beyond our county borders.
“The local and national elections have given us a great opportunity to get in front of candidates and advocate for our industry,” Ferguson said.
He said membership offers advantages that help develop leadership skills and the creation of strong business relationships. He said it is great being able to attend a monthly event and network with people from the county who have a passion for the industry.
“You’re able to make relationships with other NEFBA members whose businesses are focused on these parts of town and get together with them regularly to discuss issues that affect our industry and our individual businesses, as well as get to know them socially and build relationships and trust that foster strong business relationships,” Ferguson said.
“It’s also an occasion to promote and encourage members to take an active role in the council, the association and prepare for leadership roles,” he added.
Ferguson and his wife, Laura, have three children: Henry, 18; Caty, 19; and Jack, 13.
