Our family tradition begins immediately before the blessing where everyone is gathered around the table. The little ones put on makeshift pilgrim and Indian costumes and a short history of Thanksgiving is read with the children acting out their respective roles. Finally, I read either George Washington’s or Abraham Lincoln’s Thanksgiving proclamation.

Thanksgiving is a time-honored tradition in our family. My mother is one of four daughters and my father is one of four sons. My parents gather all their siblings and all their children and grandchildren and, along with some friends, we have a huge feast potluck style at someone’s home. There are usually 40 people and we start early. Then we end the evening by going to see the newest movie with the whole family at the theater.
