The Jacksonville Port Authority’s $30 million Intermodal Container Transfer Facility recently opened, providing on-dock rail service to Blount Island Marine Terminal and the TraPac Container Terminal at Dames Point. A news release from JaxPort said the benefits of the direct transfer of containers between vessels and trains include expediting the shipment process and offering shippers greater efficiencies. Rails that connects to CSX Transportation’s main line allows for two unit trains each day. The facility was funded with $20 million from the state and $10 million from the federal government, the release said.
