Last year, Mayor Lenny Curry’s big ask from the Florida Legislature was support for his pension reform plan.
This year, he’s focused on knocking down and replacing a key piece of Downtown infrastructure.
Curry told the Duval Legislative Delegation today he wanted help seeking state funding to revamp the Hart Bridge ramp.
The aging, elevated stretch of expressway exits off the bridge near the St. Johns River before giving drivers access to Adams and Duval streets toward the heart of Downtown.
Curry noted the stretch of expressway was close to 50 years old and posed safety hazards, as it does not have breakdown lanes or areas for bikes and pedestrians. Additionally, he said, removing the stretch could benefit Downtown development.
In its place would be a reconfigured off-ramp that deposits cars on to Bay Street near EverBank Field.
Curry did not provide cost estimates for such a project.
