More than 140 golfers and sponsors gathered at Magnolia Point Country Club on Sept. 16 to continue a Clay Builders Council tradition, the 29th annual Charity Golf Tournament.
Other than a brief encounter with some refreshing afternoon showers, the event went off without a hitch.
The tournament has always been a great networking opportunity for the members of the Clay Builders Council and NEFBA. Its real significance is realized in December.
Since 1990, Clay builders have used the proceeds of the golf tournament to fund the Christmas Food Basket Giveaway.
The Clay Builders Council and the Green Cove Springs Food Pantry partner to purchase and prepare large boxes of food for Clay County families in need.
Last year, more than 100 families enjoyed a holiday feast, thanks to the CBC, the food pantry and Scout Troop 424. The council expects to match that level of donation in 2016.
