My favorite Halloween memory by far is when I was a junior in college and scrambling for a last-minute costume idea. I ended up using duct tape to attach a very large, mounted and stuffed deer’s head to my chest, affixed some photographs to my shoulders and went as a living room wall. The costume was a hit and unforgettable.

Last year I went to Halloween Horror Nights with a bunch of my friends. It was terrifying. I was held hostage by about six people with chain saws. For a minute, I thought it was real, but I have to admit, I liked being scared.

Having just lost my father, he’s been on my mind. In memory of him, I can’t help but think of the time he agreed to team up with me as Beavis and Butthead. I can’t remember how young I was, but I do remember how my father could be like a big kid (in the best way possible). He didn’t mind how silly he looked if it made me happy. That is a pretty good memory I’ll hold on to.

One of my favorite Halloween memories took place while I was in law school volunteering for the Sulzbacher Center, where we dressed up and escorted costumed youngsters to trick or treat stops set up throughout the campus. I went as Professor Lupin from the Harry Potter series, and without any planning or coordinating beforehand, Fernando showed up as Neville Longbottom.
