Bold City Brewery’s latest concept opens Friday in Downtown Jacksonville.
Bold City Downtown, 109 E. Bay St., will work as a taproom and testing space for new beer concepts.
“At our production facility, we may only brew seven to eight different beers a year,” said co-owner Brian Miller. “This is going to kind of like a playground for our brewers.”
Miller said the brewery will offer standard favorites like Killer Whale and Duke’s Brown Ale, along with about seven or eight experimental recipes.
The brewery has been hosting small private parties leading up to Friday’s opening to get a feel for how business will flow.
Miller said he decided to open before the neighboring Cowford Chophouse to build a buzz – no pun intended.
“When they eventually open, it will be kind of like a second grand opening for us,” he added. “We’re just doing our part to bring some excitement back to this part of Downtown.”
Cowford Chophouse is set to open later this year.
Miller said he’s not too concerned about the ongoing construction, since most of that happens during the daytime hours.
For now, patrons will only have access to the indoor space, a shotgun-style tap room, until the outdoor area behind the building is completed.
Starting Friday, Bold City Downtown will operate from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
