Former Northeast Florida Builders Association President Mitchell R. Montgomery, 71, died June 26.
A celebration of his life is 10:30 a.m. July 26 at North Jacksonville Baptist Church, 8531 N. Main St.
Montgomery was the president of NEFBA in 2000 and was the Northeast Florida Builder of the Year in 1997 and 2000.
He won the National Home Award in 2000 for his contributions to minority housing.
Montgomery was born July 26, 1945, in Valdosta, Georgia, and graduated from Valdosta State College.
He moved to Jacksonville and become a homebuilder and land developer. He was founder and president of Montgomery Homes Inc., which later became Montgomery Land Company, and Montgomery Realty Group Inc.
He was president of Safari Club International, North Florida Chapter in 1992 where he helped develop the first Sensory Safari in elementary schools. He also served as regional representative of Safari Club International.
