Nine local celebrities, including a former NFL player, will compete in “Jacksonville’s Dancing with the Stars,” an event to raise money for the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus.

The competition is 8 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Lazzara Performance Hall in the UNF Fine Arts Center.

The celebrities will be partnered with professional dancers from A Social Affair Dance Studio.

The celebrities will compete for votes from a panel of judges, the audience and the public, who will cast votes by making cash donations.

Votes are $1 each and can be bought before and during the event. Votes can be purchased with cash, credit card, checks or via PayPal.

Tickets go on sale this month and cost from $35 to $150. They can be purchased online, by phone and by mail. Visit www.JaxDWTS.com for more information.

The mission of the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus is to provide high-quality choral music education for children of diverse backgrounds.

The Children’s Chorus  impacts more than 900 area children annually and its performance choir program draws its membership from five counties and represents more than 180 schools.

‘Christmas in July’ toy drive to benefit Wolfson

Wolfson Children’s Hospital is seeking donations for its sixth “Christmas in July” toy drive.

The event helps the hospital restock its toy closet, playrooms and teen room to ensure patients have toys and other activities to help make their stay more comfortable.

This year, there are four ways to donate:

  • Donate online at ChristmasJuly.com.
  • Shop on Amazon. Go to Amazon’s baby registry and search for Wolfson Children’s Hospital. Toys will be shipped directly to the hospital.
  • Start a Facebook fundraiser. Encourage your network of friends and family to donate. Companies can create a virtual toy bin for employee and customer donations. Visit facebook.com/WolfsonChildren/fundraisers to  start.
  • Bring a toy in person. The best toys keep patients busy and don’t require a lot of energy. Donate toys that can be played with in bed. Infant and toddler toys, Legos and card games are good choices.

The main drop-off event is  7 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 25 at the Wolfson Children’s Hospital circular driveway, 800 Prudential Drive.

Toys also can be dropped off through July 24 at Jersey Mike’s Subs. Visit  jerseymikes.com/locations.
