Wawa Inc., the Pennsylvania-based chain with at least a dozen identified locations planned in Northeast Florida, has added a Northwest Jacksonville site.
The city issued concurrency and mobility fee calculation certificates for Wawa to build at 1004 Edgewood Ave. N., at Commonwealth Avenue in the Paxon area.
A former bank building would be demolished to make way for a 6,119-square-foot convenience store and 12 fueling positions on the 1.83-acre site.
The property is owned by Jacksonville Parc LLC of Fort Lauderdale. It bought the site in 2014.
Bohler Engineering FL LLC is the agent.
The mobility fee, to offset transportation impacts, is calculated at $222,613.
Wawa wants to build up to 40 locations in Northeast Florida.
The company said it would open three area stores this year and 10 more next year. Its first sites are in Duval and Clay counties but it also plans to look at St. Johns County.
Much of the Southside Estates Shopping Center could soon be coming down for development of a Wawa gas station and convenience store.
Property owner 9731 Beach Blvd LLC, led by Justin Ashourian, owns the site at northeast Beach and Southside boulevards where almost 51,000 square feet of the center will be demolished.
The permit application shows that Lockwood Quality Demolition Inc. will take down that part of the center at a cost of $117,000.
Wawa wants to build a 6,119-square-foot convenience store and 16 fueling positions at the corner. It is scheduled to open in summer 2018.
Work is expected to start in the fall on the proposed Aldi Inc. grocery store in CB Square at 9337 Atlantic Blvd.
Matt Thon, Aldi Haines City division vice president, said Wednesday it was too early to confirm the grand opening date.
The city is reviewing a permit for Commercial Construction Services Inc. to demolish the interior of 24,733 square feet of space in the former Bed Bath & Beyond.
The almost $274,000 project will involve new utilities and other work to take the project to shell status. Build-out for Aldi will be under a separate permit.
The discount grocer previously filed building plans for the store showing a $900,000 build-out.
The Germany-based discount food chain operates four area stores. Two are in Jacksonville along Southside Boulevard and Normandy Boulevard.
A St. Johns County store operates in St. Augustine and the Clay County location is in Middleburg.
Aldi will open two more.
The first of those will open Aug. 31 at Town Center Promenade near St. Johns Town Center in Jacksonville. The second should open in early 2018 along Blanding Boulevard in Orange Park, becoming the second in Clay County.
An Aldi executive said in April the new stores feature “inviting colors, high ceilings and natural lighting” and will feature more space for fresh and organic produce, the liveGfree gluten-free product line and the SimplyNature line of products. There also is a new full line of baby products.
Aldi’s exclusive brands comprise 90 percent of its products.
Preparing for an August unveiling, The Fresh Market was approved to renovate three Duval County stores designed to add products, improve the selection of fresh, unique and small-batch items and increase shelf space.
Collins and Arnold Construction Co. LLC of Atlanta is the contractor for two stores and T.V. John & Son Inc. of Butler, Wisconsin, will handle one of the projects.
The city approved permits Tuesday for $75,000 shelving and lighting reconfigurations for Fresh Market stores at 13493 Atlantic Blvd. in Harbour Village, 150 Riverside Ave. in Brooklyn Station on Riverside and 12795 San Jose Blvd. in the Shops at Julington Creek.
Marketing Manager Barbi Baker said in early July that Fresh Market would “unveil an enhanced shopping experience to our Jacksonville-area stores in August that will further the brand’s long-standing commitment to offering fresh and delicious food every day for our guests.”
Work has been pending on up to four of the area’s five stores this month. The fourth location is at 840 A1A N. in Ponte Vedra Beach in St. Johns County.
Fresh Market’s newest area store at Fleming Island in Clay County opened in June.
The North Carolina-based company has been updating stores in waves. The renovations are expected to be completed early next year.
• Wendy’s plans a 3,500-square-foot restaurant on 1.45 acres at Wilson Boulevard and Firestone Road, according to a concurrency reservation certificate.
• Arby’s intends to remodel a former Hardee’s at 5081 J. Turner Butler Blvd. at a cost of $250,000, according to a pending building permit.
• Tijuana Flats is building-out a 2,405-square-foot restaurant at the Mandarin South Shopping Center at 11700 San Jose Blvd. at a construction cost of $180,000. A permit was issued Tuesday.
The city issued the permit for Wilson & Co. to renovate 11,050 square feet of space at the renamed Gates of Pottsburg Plaza for MCCI Medical Group at a cost of $1.36 million.
Jacksonville-based Hakimian Holdings bought the center at 25 University Blvd., at northeast University and Atlantic boulevards, and signed the lease with MCCI for space next to the standalone Walgreens.
Hakimian plans a facade renovation along with lighting, landscape and parking lot improvements at the center.
MCCI, associated with Humana Inc., has six other locations in Northeast Florida.
Auld & White Constructors LLC landed a permit to renovate four floors at Butler Plaza for Formativ Health at a job cost of almost $2.48 million.
The project involves 72,200 square feet on all four floors at Butler III at 4875 Belfort Road.
Formativ will open a 500-job patient access service center. It will occupy all of the upper three floors with open office space, conference rooms, collaboration areas and directors’ offices on each.
Formativ Health CEO Dennis Dowling said at a news conference in January that the center will provide practice management services for physicians across the country.
New York-based Formativ’s services include revenue cycle management solutions, patient access services, physician practice management and advisory services, he said.
The office space formerly housed Deutsche Bank, which relocated to its nearby campus.
The Inspired Living at Jacksonville senior housing center under development at 10776 Burnt Mill Road is adding a Tiki bar, dog park and fishing pier.
Inspired Living will comprise 43 memory-care units and 109 assisted-living units.
Senior Care Living of Jacksonville LLC, based in St. Petersburg, paid almost $2.7 million for the property, buying it from the Skinner family. Branch Banking and Trust Co. issued an almost $26.6 million mortgage.
