Jacksonville University is on its way toward developing a Downtown campus within the SunTrust Tower.
The Arlington-based university will renovate 12,280 square feet on the 18th floor of the tower at 76 S. Laura St.
A permit application submitted Thursday shows four classrooms, offices, conference space, collaboration rooms, open cubicles, IT workspace and a kitchen.
Emerald C’s Development Inc. is the contractor for the $120,000 renovation. Hota Design Studio LLC is the architect.
Building plans show offices for JU health care and nursing directors and coordinators.
JU spokesman Phillip Milano said Friday morning the move Downtown now is for graduate programs in the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences.
He said there are ongoing internal discussions about possibly offering graduate programs there by the Davis College of Business.
The $274,000 loan is for costs associated with tenant improvements and capital expenditures. It will be forgiven at the rate of 3.45 percent per month over the course of the initial 29-month term of the lease.
JU President Tim Cost said previously the intention is for the urban campus to be permanent. JU said 30 faculty and staff members would provide undergraduate and post-graduate courses to about 100 students taking day and evening classes.
Cost said the idea of coming Downtown has been on JU’s schedule for two years.
