It’s that time of year again, so registration is open for The Jacksonville Bar Association Young Lawyers Section’s annual Noon in June event.
Law students, law clerks, interns at law firms and summer associates are invited to hear from some of Jacksonville’s most distinguished judges and lawyers.
Noon in June is intended to provide rising 2Ls and 3Ls advice and guidance as they prepare to enter the legal profession.
It also offers law students an introduction to and a brief tour of the 4th Judicial Circuit’s legal landscape.
The event is June 8, beginning with lunch and a presentation in the Bryan Simpson U.S. Courthouse jury assembly room.
Attendees will hear from the Duval County Judge Gary Flower; Tad Delegal, 2017-18 JBA president and managing partner of Delegal Law Offices; Christian George, JBA Young Lawyers Section president and managing partner of Akerman’s Jacksonville office; and Yared Alula, senior counsel for the PGA Tour.
After lunch, attendees will meet U.S. District Judge Timothy Corrigan and take a tour of the federal courthouse.
Attendees then will head over to the ceremonial courtroom at the State Attorney’s Office for a presentation from Circuit Judge John Guy; Chief Assistant State Attorney Mac Heavener III; and Chief Assistant Public Defender Lewis Buzzell III.
Last but not least, the tour will conclude at the offices of Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, where representatives and attorneys of JALA will explain the organization’s role in the community and the services they provide, as well as volunteer opportunities available for advocates.
Law students should gain a better understanding of the Jacksonville legal community, and hopefully, feel better prepared for entering the practice of law.
Noon in June is a great platform for law students to ask questions regarding areas of practice, how to deal with various situations, mentorship, career trajectories and how to balance a demanding career with other goals.
It also offers law students an opportunity to meet, mix and mingle with peers in Jacksonville.
To wrap up the event, attendees are invited to attend the YLS annual meeting at The Blue Room at the Jacksonville Landing. The meeting is an opportunity for law students to meet members of the YLS and learn how to get involved.
Also, the YLS election results will be announced and the 2017-18 board of governors will be sworn in. You won’t want to miss it.
Early registration is required in order to attend Noon in June. To register, or for more information, contact Amanda Thomas at (904) 807-8217 or [email protected].
