Dear Members,
As you well know, planning is critical to the successful operation of a business or personal agenda. The NEFBA staff and members are skilled at planning and executing well-thought-out plans. Contingency plans are also important, especially in areas prone to extreme weather conditions, such as hurricanes.
Last month was a reminder of our vulnerability to forces outside our control. Hurricane Irma was coming, and at first it seemed she was headed directly for the East Coast. Hurricanes are not always predictable, though, and after slamming into the Keys and South Florida, she took aim on the middle of the state, traveling in a north-by-northwest direction. We are grateful for that course change as our area was spared the full force of Irma’s fury. I salute our members and our community for their resilience and willingness to help each other in times of trouble. Our hearts are heavy for the areas that suffered loss of life and massive property destruction.
Flexibility is also necessary when developing plans, which you know if you live in Florida, where hurricanes can be predicted but not their timing or specific path. Irma’s size and strength meant we would have to reschedule some of NEFBA’s most popular fall events. We thank you for your patience and flexibility. We thank you, too, that your enthusiasm did not waiver. Many of you were too busy helping friends and neighbors to attend anyway.
The Clay Golf tournament was rescheduled for Oct. 20. Meet the Builders is Oct. 26. And, the annual Gala is Nov. 3. See the advisory on page 27 for details.
Changing the calendar necessitated changing the content in this edition of Builder News. I’m glad we are taking the opportunity to tell you more about the All-In building fund campaign and how you can be part of this exciting new era in NEFBA’s long history.
The holiday season is upon us, and the calendar is bulging at the seams with the rescheduling of events. I hope you will join us as we regroup, review, take stock, count our blessings and celebrate. You are the reason for our success, and I hope to see you soon and often.
Sincerely,
Lee Arsenault
