The city submitted its bid Wednesday to become the new home for Amazon.com's new North American headquarters, an expansion that could bring $5 billion in capital investment and 50,000 new, high-paying jobs.
Mayor Lenny Curry said at a news conference for his Kids Hope Alliance legislation that the package had been sent to the online retailer.
Curry said the city has put together a proposal "that works," declining to get into specifics of the bid.
"It was a great collaborative effort," Curry said. "We've put together a proposal that we believe is attractive and we're going to fight for it."
Potential sites, financial incentives and other details of the response to Amazon's request for proposal are not being disclosed.
Curry said that while Amazon's request is "unique" because of the publicity surrounding it, the bid is protected under Florida law, since certain proprietary information about the project and Amazon could be at risk if made public.
"We are going after this strategically, with a plan that makes sense," Curry said. "There is no reason for us to get caught up in the hoopla and all of the 'what if' scenarios."
Seattle-based Amazon announced its intentions to find a second North American headquarters in September.
On Oct. 6, Curry said the city would make a formal bid, saying "Jacksonville has all the attributes" to bring what could be a transformative corporate expansion to North Florida.
The company says the new campus will bring with it a $5 billion capital investment over the next two decades and 50,000 employees with average salaries in the six-figures.
Prospective cities need to meet the company's initial requirements, which include room for a 500,000-square-foot office facility, with an eventual expansion to 8 million square feet after 2027; a population of more than 1 million; within a 45 minute drive to an international airport; within 2 miles of a major highway; and have access to mass transit at the site.
Amazon said it will make a selection in 2018.
