Sean Nguyen plans to open Domu in The Strand at Town Center.
Jimmy Tung, manager of Domu Jax LLC, wants to build-out the 2,700-square-foot Domu restaurant at a cost of $300,000 at 4852 Town Center Parkway, No. 101.
Sean Nguyen and Johnny Tung are managers of Domu Orlando LLC. That restaurant serves ramen, Japanese small plates, cocktails and more.
Nguyen is the sole proprietor, chef and owner. He said the Tungs are investors,
An Orlando Sentinel review described its “pan-Asian menu with everything from ramen to chicken wings.”
Moderncities.com reported in June that the ramen bar from Orlando was expanding to the Town Center.
The site said Sonny Nguyen opened the “small, intimate” ramen bar in late 2016. It said Domu features a mix of ramen bowls and pan-Asian, shareable, small plates, as well as an Asian-inspired cocktail menu.
It is open for lunch and dinner.
A neighboring restaurant will be Texas-based Grub Burger Bar.
Grub Burger Bar intends to open at 4906 Town Center Parkway, No. 408. No contractor is listed for the $200,000 initial build-out of 3,835 square feet of space, consisting of a demising partition and other work within the shell space.
The company’s marketing vice president said previously the Jacksonville restaurant would open in the first quarter.
The stores typically hire about 50 people. The Bryan, Texas-based company’s first Florida store is in Tallahassee.
Its menu includes burgers, sides, salads and bowls, sandwiches and tenders, snacks, drinks and a full bar.
Building plans show that Grub Burger Bar will seat 117 diners inside and 38 on a patio. The indoor seating includes 19 at the bar.
The city also has been reviewing a $650,000 build-out for the restaurant.
The Strand and The Crossing at Town Center are the sites for several businesses and restaurants that are new to Jacksonville.
Those include Bonchon, Chuy’s, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, Texas de Brazil, Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, PGA Tour Superstore, the 2nd & Charles used-media store, Goo-Goo Express Wash and others.
The Strand and The Crossing are south of Town Center Promenade, which also features stores and restaurants new to the area.
Jackson Commons earned a Concurrency Reservation Certificate for its proposed apartments and retail space in Arlington north of Jacksonville University.
The project comprises 66 apartments and 4,152 square feet of retail space on 3.3 acres at 3607 University Blvd. N. and 5535 Fort Caroline Road.
Tramell Webb Partners Inc. is the developer and Taylor & White Inc. is the civil engineer.
A proposed site plan shows 30 two-bedroom and 18 three-bedroom flat units and one three-bedroom and 17 four-bedroom townhomes.
Amenities include a pool.
The 4,152-square-foot retail building is shown at the corner of Fort Caroline Road and University Boulevard.
The type of retail was not specified.
The site incorporates three parcels that include the now-demolished Nero’s restaurant, the Blue Boy Sandwich Shop and a vacant lot.
The site is a mile north of the Jacksonville University campus.
Developer John “Chip” Webb said previously he would work with the university to provide convenient housing for faculty, staff and senior and graduate students.
Webb is a principal of Trammell Webb Partners. He referred to the Renew Arlington CRA vision plan and said the project could be an asset.
The Renew Arlington CRA boundary stretches along University Boulevard from the Arlington Expressway north to the Jackson Commons site, and east along Merrill Road from University Boulevard to Interstate 295.
