Of the 29 students who graduated from Florida Coastal School of Law and took the Florida Bar examination for the first time in February, 18 passed the exam, 62.1 percent.

That's the fourth-highest among 11 law schools in the state, according to results released Monday by the state Supreme Court and provided by the Florida Board of Bar Examiners.

It is the highest first-time pass percentage for Florida Coastal students since the February 2015 exam, when 74.5 percent of first-time takers passed.

“It shows the hard work of the students, the faculty and staff is paying off,” Florida Coastal Dean Scott DeVito said.

DeVito said that while the results from the February exam are below the goal set for the school's graduates, a minimum 75 percent first-time pass percentage, “this is a solid movement. I'll take fourth in the state.”

Florida Coastal is under review by the American Bar Association following the results of the February 2017 Bar exam when 25 percent of its students scored a passing grade.

The school was notified in October by the ABA Accreditation Committee that it is not in compliance with the rules requiring a program of education that adequately prepares its students for admission to the Bar.

Graduates of Florida International University School of Law turned in the highest pass percentage in the February exam, 85 percent, followed by Ave Maria School of Law at 84.6 percent and Florida State University College of Law in third at 76.7 percent.

The University of Florida Levin College of Law graduates turned in the lowest first-time pass percentage in the February exam at 31.8 percent.
