Posters depicting the 2018 Law Day theme “Separation of Powers: Framework for Freedom,” created by students at West Riverside Elementary School, were exhibited for two weeks in the lobby of the Duval County Courthouse.
The annual project began when members of the Jacksonville Bar Association Law Week Committee visited four art classes at the school to explain to the students how the executive, judicial and legislative branches of government were established and how that system ensures liberty and justice.
Visitors, judges, attorneys and courthouse staff were invited to vote for their favorite poster; the student who submitted the most popular poster will be recognized at the school’s year-end awards assembly.
In conjunction with the contest, the committee placed boxes at law offices to collect art supplies that will be delivered to the school and toiletries that will be donated to Downtown Ecumenical Services.
