Wayfair, the Boston-based online home furnishings retailer, posted a job Friday for a “Launch Lead – Large Parcel Home Delivery Operations” that supports its new strategy that appears to include Jacksonville.
The posting on indeed.com explains that “Wayfair is investing heavily to create the first-ever national large parcel supply chain all the way to the consumer’s home.”
“Wayfair is redefining the way customers buy online and one of the key pillars of that strategy is to create a truly differentiated customer experience for large parcel items (e.g., couches, vanities),” the posting says.
The job was posted to include Jacksonville and the position applies to “various locations throughout the United States.”
No salary was posted for the full-time position. No specific Jacksonville location was identified in the posting, although a 1.5 million-square-foot warehouse is in review at AllianceFlorida at Cecil Commerce Center for an unidentified user.
Wayfair and the city have not confirmed a Jacksonville distribution center.
The posting says Wayfair is looking for “leaders who can help disrupt the status quo and redefine an industry.”
The person hired for launch lead will play a key leadership role in the strategic initiative, the posting says. “This is a highly visible and exciting role for the company and one that will offer the right candidate an opportunity to reshape one of our core operational functions.”
It will be “helping to develop and run a network of best-in-class asset-based final mile sites within the US and Canada.”
The candidate must be able to “thrive in an extremely fast-paced environment with Wayfair growing at an unprecedented 50% year over year.”
The responsibilities further outline the strategy.
The lead would develop the team to launch the new home delivery operations; train and provide structure to terminal managers; develop continual process improvement projects; regularly visit the sites; and travel about 80 percent of the time.
The lead needs a bachelor's degree with a strong academic record or equivalent experience; three to five years of logistics and supply chain experience; strong communication and negotiation skills; and other qualifications.
Wayfair provides a selection of more than 10 million items among home furnishings, décor, home improvement, housewares and more categories.
It generated $5.2 billion in net revenue for the year ended March 31. It operates throughout North America and Europe and employs more than 9,700 people.
Wayfair previously posted job openings for a warehouse supervisor for a Jacksonville center to manage and oversee the operations and for a process quality manager.
