U.S. District Judge Marcia Morales Howard is seeking an attorney willing to serve as pro bono counsel in an international custody case involving a child.
Filed on Morales Howard's docket is a verified petition pursuant to The Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction (“the Hague Convention”), Oct. 25, 1980, T.I.A.S. No. 11670, as implemented by the International Child Abduction Remedies Act, 42 U.S.C. § 11601, et seq.
The petition is alleged to be filed by a parent, a citizen of Peru, seeking the return of a young child which the parent alleges is being unlawfully retained in the United States by the other parent, also a citizen of Peru. The case number is 3:18-cv-160-J-34JBT.
A status conference is 4:30 p.m. Monday and Howard anticipates the respondent may seek appointment of pro bono counsel at that time.
