Jacksonville-based Community First Credit Union started construction at 9690 Applecross Road in OakLeaf Plantation for its 19th Northeast Florida branch.

It is scheduled to open this summer.

The location is part of Community First’s Branch Transformation Project, a comprehensive facilities upgrade and update that it said will address modern banking needs and customer uses.

The branch will feature Community First’s signature lobby, relaxation zone and community room, full-service drive-thru and drive-up ATM.

Community First board members, executive leaders and staff along with OakLeaf and Westside political and business leaders held a ceremonial groundbreaking at the site Jan. 16. John Hirabayashi is CEO and president.

The branch will comprise about 3,300 square feet featuring the design of Community First’s other new and renovated branch locations. Auld & White Constructors LLC of Jacksonville is the contractor.

Highlighting the branch design is a cylindrical glass tower, one of the signature exterior features of the credit union’s new branches. The tower will contain a community room for use by local organizations and businesses.

The interior is a redesign including an open floor plan, brighter colors and new technologies. There will be full-service, self-service and assisted-service options.

Community First recently opened its new Fleming Island branch and has begun renovation of its Jacksonville Beach location. Credit union membership is open to the public.
