City Council Member Garrett Dennis filed a bill Tuesday aiming to curb wasted supplies at the Duval County Tax Collector’s office.
Dennis said the bill ensures whoever is elected to fill the office on an interim basis does not “discard outdated but usable letterhead, envelopes and forms” and incur the expense of printing new items to “display his or her name for a few months.”
Michael Corrigan stepped down from the office to become the president of Visit Jacksonville. His interim replacement will be elected this fall.
Gov. Rick Scott appointed J. Palmer Clarkson to the Florida State College of Jacksonville District Board of Trustees. Clarkson, 61, succeeds Randy DeFoor for a term that began July 20 and runs through May 31, 2022. He is the chief executive officer and president of Bridgestone HosePower.
City Council voted Tuesday to amend a 2009 economic development agreement with Saft America Inc. after the company failed at year-end 2017 to hire 279 employees. The hires are tied to financial incentives provided by the city. Saft now has until December 2019 to hit the employment goal. If it fails to do so, it will have to pay back incentives, as determined by the Office of Economic Development.
