It will be a week or two before he can provide any details, but when University of North Florida President John Delaney retires on May 31, he will be resuming his law career and joining a large Jacksonville firm.
“There are a couple of firms I’m talking to,” he said Friday afternoon.
Delaney was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1981 and was hired by former State Attorney Ed Austin. When Austin was elected mayor of Jacksonville in 1991, Delaney became the city’s general counsel and later served as Austin’s chief of staff.
When Austin declined to seek re-election, Delaney entered the race and defeated former Mayor Jake Godbold. Delaney served two terms as mayor and was appointed president of UNF soon after he left office.
