The city plans to spend almost $2 million for upgrades at three Downtown public sports facilities.
The administration is asking City Council to transfer $1.945 million from the Sports Complex Capital Maintenance Subfund to pay for capital improvement projects at EverBank Field, Veterans Memorial Arena and the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
The mayor’s office introduced the legislation, 2018-220, at Tuesday’s council meeting.
All three venues could receive updates to the audiovisual systems and seating repairs.
The bulk of spending on the 13 projects identified in a legislative fact sheet, $1.225 million, is for EverBank Field.
The stadium would receive $300,000 to repair seating to reduce water intrusion, $225,000 for concessions upgrades and $100,000 to upgrade the phone system.
Other projects include $100,000 for seating bowl repairs at Veterans Memorial Arena and $100,000 in video control room equipment upgrades at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
The city also is seeking about $650,000 to build a 27-by-12-foot digital sign attached to a 45-foot-tall pole near the Daily’s Place amphitheater.
The marquee will be used to promote events planned only at the football stadium, Daily’s Place amphitheater, the Dream Finders Homes Flex Field at Daily’s Place, Veterans Memorial Arena and the Baseball Grounds.
Council approved changes Feb. 27 to the city’s sign ordinance to allow the exclusive promotional programming.
