McKesson Corp.’s new Southside Quarter office building is taking shape along Gate Parkway and Interstate 295.
The Hines real estate development firm seeks a permit to build the foundation for a four-story building of about 125,000 square feet that McKesson will lease.
Elkins Construction LLC is the contractor for the $3.5 million foundation project on 7.8 acres at 6651 Gate Parkway. The city issued a site-clearing permit May 9.
Elkins also is the contractor for the building construction.
Southside Quarter is at southwest Butler Boulevard and I-295.
McKesson said in January it agreed to anchor the building. Houston-based Hines said it would lease the structure to McKesson’s Medical-Surgical business.
City Council approved a $700,000 Recapture Enhanced Value grant that calls for McKesson to retain 428 jobs and create at least 10 more at an average salary of $45,562.
Construction must start by June 30 and be completed by end of 2019.
McKesson intends to move into the structure in the summer of 2019. It will relocate from Southpoint.
The office building is the first of two planned at Southside Quarter.
