Fishweir Brewing Company is preparing to remodel space in Murray Hill for a brewery and taproom.
The city is reviewing a permit application for Southern Grace Homes to renovate the almost 6,000-square-foot space at 1183 Edgewood Ave. S. at a construction cost of $200,000.
The application calls for remodeling a lounge and dance hall into a beer manufacturing plant with a taproom. Work will include interior partitions and doors, restrooms and new processing equipment.
There also is an outdoor patio.
Fishweir Brewing Company LLC, the tenant, is led by Broc Flores. The property owner is Leadgen Inc., led by John Kowkabany. The architect is Hauck Architecture of San Diego.
The building was constructed in 1942.
In February, the Jacksonville Planning Commission approved a request to rezone the property from Commercial Community General-1 to Planned Unit Development.
City Council enacted the ordinance Feb. 27.
The rezoning allows development of the brewery, including the sale and serving of beer, wine, cider and mead for on-site consumption within the building and off-site consumption and distribution.
The rezoning also includes a waiver of liquor distance from less than 1,500 feet from the Edgewood Avenue Christian Church.
Visitors and employees at City Hall soon can grab a café snack on the ground floor.
The city Building Inspection Division issued a permit Wednesday for Auld & White Constructors LLC to renovate 996 square feet on the first floor of City Hall for a cafe.
The state Division of Blind Services will operate the café, which city spokeswoman Tia Ford previously said would be completed about two months after a contract is executed. That indicates a July or August opening.
The space is where a break room with vending machines operates near the information desk.
The café’s focus will be on takeout food but it will have space for a few tables and chairs and a standing counter.
Ford said in an email the café will be opened “to provide better support for City staff and citizens that utilize the St. James Building” at 117 W. Duval St.
Jimmy Fu’s Asian restaurant has a new site in Arlington.
It will move from a small strip center at 9180 Merrill Road to the Merrill Publix Plaza next door at 9100 Merrill Road, anchored by Publix Super Markets Inc.
R&R General Contractors Inc. is the contractor for the $120,000 restaurant build-out of 1,400 square feet.
Both properties are owned by Isram Merrill LLC. An Isram Realty Group site plan shows McKinney Dental in the spaces that included Jimmy Fu’s.
An Isram representative said the moves would take place in the coming few months.
• Salsas Mexican Restaurant is coming to Bay95. The city is reviewing plans for Salsas Mexican Restaurant to build-out 3,500 square feet of space at 8738 Baymeadows Road E., No. 106, at a cost of $150,000. Bay95 is a neighborhood retail center under development by Property Theater LLC, led by Charles Skinner and Justin Clark.
• The Produce Xchange & Juice Bar applied for a Certificate of Use for a retail store in Commerce Center at 8535 Baymeadows Road, No. 10. The store will use 3,900 square feet and sell produce. The city approved a building permit Thursday for a $75,000 renovation of the space.
